What Are Electrical Drawing Symbols?
Auto CAD is a computer aided drafting software. It can be used to draft architectural floor plans and to draft the schematics of machines and their different parts. This software is the next step in drafting. It can also go into a lot of detail with the designs that can be made on it. For example, when using the software for architecture, you can go as far as also putting the electrical into the floor plans.
This helps make the plans easier to read during the construction process. Construction workers will know where to place walls and how wide the walls should be based on the wiring of the house. The electrical is placed on the floor plan using a variety of symbols to represent each item having to do with electrical.
There are many symbols that are used to identify and represent electrical fixtures on a floor plan. Electrical drawing symbols are either already preloaded onto the software or they can be downloaded. If you know the basic look of the symbol you can create it using lines and other shapes. Even though you can make the symbols yourself, it is still a good idea to have a library specific for electrical drawing symbols. This makes it easier to access and find the symbols when needed, and creates a place to store new symbols when downloaded off the Internet.
Most of the symbols are clear and self explanatory as to what they represent. For example, a circle with an L in its center represents a light. These symbols are easy to read and are very helpful. There are also so many of them. Some may look similar, but can represent two completely different fixtures. The symbol for a wall hung light and a ceiling light look very similar, but are different, and they can confuse construction workers if mixed up. Electrical drawing symbols are important to the architectural drafting process and are needed to make the construction of buildings simpler. They represent the different electrical fixtures such as lights, switch, and plugs. Without these symbols, construction workers would have no idea where to place the fixtures in a newly constructed home.
