What's The Best Electrical CAD Software For Your Business?

Everyone knows you can now save manpower and untold working hours by drafting your plans on a computer and, in doing so, have your plans look cleaner and more professional and be easier for any installer to read than the old hand-drawn plans.

Chances are, if you work for a large electrical engineering firm, your engineers and design team already use electrical Computer Assisted Drawing or CAD software to draw up all their plans.

But did you know smaller firms can benefit from Electrical CAD software too? And they don't necessarily have to pay the notoriously high prices that programs such as AutoDesk's venerable AutoCAD normally command.

Of course, AutoCad remains the industry leader of all the CAD programs and with its legendary support, training, yearly updates and usability, it sets standards few other programs can compete with.

Naturally, licensees pay premium prices for these features and while there is some flexibility for the smaller firm, the smallest firms may not wish to make the expenditure - or be able to. If your small or growing office doesn't yet have the budget, are there any alternatives? The answer is: yes.

Ige+Zao and Eplan Electric P8 are other industry standards especially created for the electrical engineer and both are designed to work equally well with the small or large electrical firm and to a certain extent the Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) industry.

Both plans offer a free trial period so the curious can compare. Many also turn to Electra 2005 as an add on to Microsoft's Visio. Electra 2005 enables Visio's diagramming ability to convert neatly into circuit schematics for electrical design.

Still too much to pay? There are actually free electrical CAD programs available for download as well as free trials of the most popular CAD software. A quick online search of such sites as CNET revealed several free CAD programs as well 2D and 3D drawing freeware programs that could be adapted to electrical design.

Creative users could take any floor plan design software and add symbols for piping and electronics. There are even free programs to help you with your bidding for projects.

Electrical Drawing Symbol

By Paula Johnson
Auto CAD is a computer aided drafting software. It can be used to draft architectural floor plans and to draft the schematics of machines and their different parts. This software is the next step in drafting. It can also go into a lot of detail with the designs that can be made on it. For example, when using the software for architecture, you can go as far as also putting the electrical into the floor plans. This helps make the plans easier to read during the construction process. Construction workers will know where to place walls and how wide the walls should be based on the wiring of the house. The electrical is placed on the floor plan using a variety of symbols to represent each item having to do with electrical.

Symbol Auto CAD Electrical

By James Monto
Auto cad can sometimes be a confusing software to operate. It has many functions that it can perform, which means that there are a lot of buttons to click. There are also a lot of symbols in the software. Each symbol represents something different. Because there are so many things that need to be represented in the drawings that are produced using auto cad, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of symbols in the software that are either preloaded or available for download. Because there are so many symbols, it can sometimes be difficult to locate a specific symbol.

Electrical Engineering Software

By Jared D. Ingram
If you have ever picked up a calculator, tuned on a computer or used any other sort of electrical device, then you are witnessing the handiwork of electrical engineering. Like any other form of science, there is a constant push to not only advance the technological aspect of engineering, but also to do so in a manner that is easy to do. To that end, the use of electrical engineering software has proven to be a valuable asset. When it comes to developing a new device or improving an existing device with better circuitry schematics, there are plenty of things that factor into this process. Improving the electrical structure of any device is the job of engineering. Due to the complicated nature of certain items, it is more important than ever to manage this engineering in a way that makes the advancing of technology possible.

Residential Electrical Load Calculation

By Dr. Kavita Shaikh
To make a house a real home, especially in more developed parts of the world it is going to need electricity. While many people often take this for granted, the truth is that when a home is planned, there must be care and attention paid to the design of the homes electrical system. As home dwellers, people tend to think that any electrical outlet is there to plug in electrical devices so that they can be properly powered. For a person designing a dwelling's electrical system, it is imperative that the calculations are done to insure that the proper amount of power is provided. That is why residential electrical load calculation is so important.

3D Drafting Software

By Richard Romando
Whether you are looking to design your next home from scratch or are just considering redoing the interior design of your current home, 3D drafting software can help. Before purchasing any program you must know what your goals are, how much you can afford to spend on the project and how much time can be spent in learning a new computer program. Inexpensive software, or freeware, will give you the ability to visualize design options before starting a project and can be used for remodeling a room or building a basic house. For more complicated projects, such as home drawing or home making, your cost for software that can handle the complexity will increase.
